Editorial: News from NorWatch
But these same countries often have inadequate legislation protecting the environment and the inhabitants from abuse.
This is why The Future in Our Hands Norway in 1995 started the NorWatch project, aiming to focus attention on how Norwegian companies in developing countries deal with environmental and development matters.
This is the first issue of the newsletter NorWatch. The newsletter will present documentation gathered through the NorWatch project as needed.
The newsletter will contain articles and information with a critical eye on Norwegian companies' operations in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The first issue of NorWatch is focusing on Norsk Hydro's mining activities in such countries as India, Brazil and Colombia, and Borregaard's carbofuran factory in China. Keywords are forced relocation of indigenous people and false information to the media.
